財團法人振興復健醫學中心In 1964, tens of thousands of children suffered the inconvenience of disability from poliomyelitis. Based on an understanding of these disabled children's urgent demand for rehabilitation through medical services, utilizing limited resources, and overcoming many difficulties, Madame Chiang established the Cheng Hsin Rehabilitation Medical Center and assumed the post of Chair, hoping that the suffering children could be afforded the prospect of a future.
After three years of effort, the Center was officially established in 1967. In the early days, the Cheng Hsin Rehabilitation Medical Center specifically served children between 4 and 14 years of age, and then over the ensuing 10 years, gradually broadened the age bracket for disabled children. By 1981, the age bracket of beneficiaries had been extended to 25 years.
In addition to providing patients with poliomyelitis surgical treatment , functional therapy, hearing services, psychological counseling, rehabilitation care, social services, and artificial limb assembly at no charge, the Center also provides pre-employment training. Those affiliated with the Center strive to help everyone create their own life.
Until the late 1980s, when the transmission of poliomyelitis was effectively controlled, the Center's beneficiaries numbered over 30,000 in 20 years of operation. Madame Chiang had been providing tireless care for disabled children with love, dedication, and support. She embodied the spirit of "service with a charitable heart and love." In order to extend her love for helping society and to respond to the ardent demand for medical treatment, the Center has been transitioning to an integrated hospital with a vision of providing better healthcare for everyday people since 1991.
It is hereby recognized with utmost respect that Madame Chiang contributed her life to charitable education, protecting and promoting the health of the community for years. Though she passed away on 24 October 2003, her spirit of "merciful love" and her personality of "offering great love while taking no claim" are completely understood, deeply appreciated, and forever remembered at the Cheng Hsin Hospital. We will uphold her founding philosophy, continue to provide care for chronic patients with humility and compassion, and immortalize her spirit of helping society by fulfilling the mission of human care of "service with charitable heart and love".

In full support of the Board of Directors, new equipment is purchased for Cheng Hsin Hospital on a regular basis, upgrading the efficiency and accuracy of diagnosis. Under the leadership of successive presidents, the Center has increasingly flourished. We have kept pace with the advancing trends in medical knowledge, added senior health checks, a medical clinic for the elderly, and a special cosmetic clinic. To facilitate easier access for the treatment and care of patients, we have reinforced the continued development and integration of the Departments of Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation, and Urology.
Moreover, Cheng Hsin Hospital, in combination with the Government, has established a nursing home to provide long-term care for patients with chronic medical conditions. No effort was spared to offer care to minority groups; in 2004, a hearing center was established, replete with otologists, a hearing division, language therapists, a counseling division, a special education teacher, and a social worker division. Indeed, this endeavor has improved the overall quality of the interaction between hearing impairment and society.
To foster the growth of patients, it was realized at Cheng Hsin Hospital that providing treatment should gradually change to include spiritual and physical health of the healthcare garden. Over the years, in addition to organizing a number of successful public activities in the community, an outpatient care clinic was established between Cheng Hsin Hospital and the community. In 2004, Cheng Hsin Hospital cooperated with five small community medical groups to implement a referral system, in the form of a small medical center, to consolidate the medical resources and provide more continuity of care in public health.

Four decades ago, Madame Chiang established Cheng Hsin Rehabilitation Medical Center in Tingnantzu1, as the only hospital dedicated to the rehabilitation of polio patients and patients with handicapped limbs. The hospital operated in a tough environment where resources were scarce during its first twenty years, but managed to rescue over 30,000 patients and created a glorious chapter in the medical history of Taiwan. Up to the end of 1980s when polio was almost a non-existence, Cheng Hsin transformed itself into a general hospital with the expansion of new buildings. Thanks to the outstanding leadership of all the chief executives, the contributions from all the staff members and the support and supervision from the board of directors, Cheng Hsin has become a modern, high-standard hospital widely recognized by the general public.
Cheng Hsin Rehabilitation Medical Center has been witnessing rapid growth over the past ten years. All our members constantly pursue excellence and development, following our motto of "compassionate heart, dedicated care". They spare no efforts to improve the quality of medical services and to develop the competences in their professional fields. We started with physical medicine and rehabilitation, cardiology, cardio-surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics gynecology, urology and pediatrics and have established a stellar reputation. Currently, there are distinguished teams of devoted medical professionals working diligently and exquisitely in all other diverse areas and subspecialties.
Over the recent years, we have been putting into resources to upgrade CAT scanners, MRI equipment and digital subtraction angiography, as well as to establish 3D reconstruction and measurement system, medical information management system, catheterization system, Da Vinci Surgical System, hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, cardiovascular reconstruction, and renewing central air-conditioning and cleaning system. All the efforts are meant to improve medical techniques and enhance the quality of medical services.
We are dedicated to providing sophisticated, highly-effective medical techniques with our core value in pursuing medical excellence. Cheng Hsin Hospital currently receives nearly 800,000 patient visits a year. There are 757 beds, accommodating 23,400 hospital stays per year. At the present time, we have a total of 140 doctors and 561 nurses. Our total number of employees is 1,550. Capacity wise, we are small-and-median hospital in Taiwan. We are always more concerned with the enhancement of our service quality, rather than the increase of quantity. We hope to provide the safest and most appropriate medical care to each patient. We want to take care of each and every patient with our respect for life and love for people. We aim to reach the highest medical standards of a medical center with the scale of a regional hospital.
The Administration/Accommodation Building and the Second Medical Building currently under construction are scheduled to be completed at the end of 2006 and the end of 2008, respectively. By that time, Cheng Hsin will further expand its scope of operations by developing new medical techniques and nurturing more medical talents, in order to provide superior and comprehensive medical services with a human touch. Cheng Hsin will also march toward a new stage and a new milestone. It will not only embrace new glories, but also assume new responsibilities and missions into a new vision.
